Based on my experience in the field of digital solutions and how technology is changing the game, I took a deep dive on the impact on people, culture and society. My master theses was embedded in the project NRP 75 “Big Data”1 (Principal Investigator: PD Dr. sc. ETH Markus Christen). The aim of this project is to investigate moral impacts when insurance companies make use of Big Data technologies. SCOPEThe master thesis examines the following Big Data application:Modern sensor technology, when integrated into a car, allow to measure such information as speed, acceleration (in all axis), brake performance, whether conditions etc. This data can be transmitted to the insurance company via communication networks in real time. Algorithms then calculate an individual profile representing the driving style of the driver. This profile also shows the probability of the occurrence of a certain event e.g. like an accident. The insurance company is now able to optimise its risk management and to individually adjust the rate of the insurance.
