About Tom Latchem

I'm an experienced journalist, broadcaster, development producer, video podcaster and media consultant, who's worked in the national media for around 20 years. ———My work in the national media spanning three decades has given me the skills to dig up exclusive topical stories and win access to the people involved, to develop groundbreaking journalism in TV, radio, print and online. I recently headed up BBC Newsnight’s acclaimed Criminal Justice strand and am currently doing agenda-setting public-interest investigations for Byline Times and others. Loads more on the horizon this field - watch this space….———-As a broadcaster, I spent more than three years hosting my own shows on talkSPORT and talkSPORT2, significantly increasing the audiences of both. My debut radio documentary, on refugees who found sporting success, which I conceived and won funding for from the DCMS Audio Content Fund, will TX on talkSPORT early next year. In July 2021 I was Associate Producer, identifying contributors, script editing and extended contributor for BBC Radio 4's News of the World documentary, Thank You & Goodbye.———I’m the founder of communications agency Willem, where as a consultant and strategist I use my knowledge of, and contacts throughout, the media industry, helping companies, organisations and individuals from the world of business and sport to:*Create messages that cut through the noise*Identify and connect with the right audience *Tell stories to raise their profile*Develop long-term PR strategies to help them grow *Manage and promote their reputations*Advise on risk- and crisis- management———During the first pandemic Lockdown in 2020, I founded and spent a year running and and hosting ROAR: The Rave Channel, chronicling the history of rave music through interviews with artists and promoters who helped create it, which is hosted forever in the British Library Sound Archive. We are currently applying for Arts Council England funding to return.-----In my early career I was a newspaper journalist who worked on a number of different national newspapers, including the News Of The World where I was TV Editor by the age of 28. I've covered and broken countless major stories, written opinion columns in national newspapers, and been a regular contributor on a range of TV and radio outlets.

I was first hired to publicly launch the British-Asian owned business, which I did by developing a successful media campaign around the shockingly low number of British Asian professional footballers which saw us covered in a range of media outlets and create relationships with key stakeholders. Having been formally made Director of Communications & External Affairs, with the remit of working on the business strategy and planning as well as PR, I've since helped develop our football department, which includes a data-led national scouting network, and our work has saved the careers of several young footballers. We currently represent 20% of all British Asian pros, as well as one of the leading young Black football managers in Hereford manager Josh Gowling, for whom I organised a monthly Guardian column - see link.We also represent the leading British Asian MMA fighter, Faisal Malik, whose ambition is to take UFC to South Asia (see link for a BBC interview I organised), several boxers and boxing coaches including world heavyweight challenger Dillian Whyte's trainer Xavier Miller. The business is working on an exciting new boxing concept, which is launching in Summer 2023 - watch this space... Show less
