After I came out of the military. , I had no idea what I wanted to do. I got a job as an account manager for a large company. I was doing OK. Then a sales manager at a sales meeting said you either love it or leave it. His words resonated with me I rapidly rose in the company from account manager to National Sales Manager. The company decided to close my division. I was guaranteed a job. However, I started to talk to people and did my research on opening my own business.Becoming a Small Business OwnerI made the leap into my own business. I started a national marketing and sales agency I would develop programs, policies and sell to a specific retail channel in the USA. I worked with smaller companies that had no sales or little sales in this channel. Within two years each one that I worked with was doing more than a million dollars .I transition into a company that designed, developed, and manufactured products for the retail and for OEM markets. We grew this to more than $30 million,We were successful, but the travel was intense . I had to learn and develop systems, processes and procedures that would allow me to manage the business and personnel while I was traveling.Transitioning Back into Operations and Sales We sold off the business. I started a consulting business concentrating on small businesses and I was doing fine. Then I was referred to a potential client. It was a public company that had acquired a company with a division that was doing no business and product was unrelated to their core. They wanted me run the division. I did not know what to expect but it seemed like a challenge, I had to set up everything from modifying the computer system, getting warehouses, setting up customer service procedures, hiring, and finding manufacturers to work. I built this business to $50 million in 8 years and sold to every major retailer in the USA and 17 other countries.Coaching Small Businesses to Understand Sales and Digital MarketingI have been successful in my business career. However, the biggest frustration has been digital marketing. . I have worked with big and small from freelancer to digital agency to advertising agencies. One of the biggest digital marketing concerns for small businesses that I see, and feel is how to stand out against bigger competitors without a significant digital marketing budget. I help companies that want to build their presence on the web without a large budget. My goal is for you to understand the KPIs and how they affect your business.
