About Tommaso Venturini

In the context of climate change, with the building sector already responsible for one third of theglobal carbon emissions, it is essential to think of alternative building methods and materials. As architect, I believe with appropriate knowledge and engagement it is possible to build in a more socially and environmentally conscious way by encouraging upcycling strategies, and with the implementation of natural materials. Thanks to my academic background, which includes both studies in the fields of architecture and engineering, I am oriented towards architectural solutions that balance technology, design and social related aspects. I consider sustainability as a way to embrace a more responsible and ethical way to work and to live. I believe innovation in the construction techniques combined with research on natural materials, could radically change the construction process towards more affordable, high-efficient and eco-logical buildings.

The project got granted with 50.000€ as one of the winner of the '4TU.Bouw Lighthouse projects 2017'.The main goal of the research is to develop an innovative, sustainable and cost efficient building system as a solution for emergency architecture in post-disaster and migration crisis events. In particular, the aim is to design an efficient temporary housing unit realized by 3Dprinting with local soil. This construction system allows to lower the cost and provides benefits in terms of simplified logistics, low environmental impact and adaptability to adjust to different situations and requirements.During this one-year-project we will investigate in particular the structural stability, durability and comfort of the shelter. Different wall geometries and earth-based material recipes will be explored and tested.A full scale wall portion will be produced as a prototype and proof of concept.
