Like many Hmong people born into poverty with refugee parents, I never had the generational wealth and education like many more fortunate others. Since that was the case, I have been working and helping my family's small business since my age was in the single digits - the same as any refugee child.My parents barely knew English and had a hard time getting jobs. That's why many immigrant and refugee families who own small businesses are struggling to get by.Because of this experience, I was able to improve these skills by the time I was a teen:- Customer Service- Negotiating- Wholesale- Operations Management- MarketingAs I moved on to my undergrad and beyond, I gained skills in the following:- Customer Research and Interview- Pitch Decks- Prototyping- Data Storytelling- Technical Writing- Business Consulting- Acting and Filmmaking- Fiction Writing- Game DesignI started connecting all the dots and realized something. I always wanted to help out my Hmong community with the experiences I gained. So, I got into non-profit. I planned on joining a non-profit and take those skills to create something with the Hmong people and community.During my time at Balance Now, I started as a Content Writer. After some time, I became the Writing Coordinator and got into my current position as a Project Manager. I was able to climb up the ranks and help achieve our goals and mission. I help create and juggle multiple leadership projects and initiatives while overseeing department coordinators. I offer support when needed and resolve issues, whether internally or externally.
