His areas of expertise include leadership, strategic planning, rhetoric and communication, and nurturing resilient systems.Tommy’s work spans a wide cross section of the governmental, non-profit and business sectors. He has worked with numerous organizations on strategic planning, communication and marketing, and cultivating healthy workplace culture. His clients include technology companies, small businesses, non-profits, churches and seminaries, and educational institutions. Tommy earned his Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, and his academic research is in the area of the rhetoric of science, with a focus on medicine and health. He has held academic positions including Director of Professional Development and Community Engagement in the Graduate School at the University of Texas at Austin (UT), Director of Community Partnerships for UT, and Director of UT's Intellectual Entrepreneurship Consortium. He also served as a tenured Associate Professor at The University of Memphis.
