Dr. Tommy Darwin has 30 years of experience as an educator, strategist and designer, helping individuals and groups to define their purpose, develop the capabilities and strategies to realize that purpose, and then guiding them through the process, with a focus on making difficult transitions. His areas of expertise include leadership, strategic planning, rhetoric and communication, and nurturing resilient systems.Tommy’s work spans a wide cross section of the governmental, non-profit and business sectors. He has worked with numerous organizations on strategic planning, communication and marketing, and cultivating healthy workplace culture. His clients include technology companies, small businesses, non-profits, churches and seminaries, and educational institutions. Tommy earned his Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, and his academic research is in the area of the rhetoric of science, with a focus on medicine and health. He has held academic positions including Director of Professional Development and Community Engagement in the Graduate School at the University of Texas at Austin (UT), Director of Community Partnerships for UT, and Director of UT's Intellectual Entrepreneurship Consortium. He also served as a tenured Associate Professor at The University of Memphis. He has designed and delivered curriculum from undergrads to post-docs, served as the curriculum architect for Concordia Central Texas University’s MBA, and has taught in departments of communication, social work, public policy, and engineering. Dr. Darwin's workshops and presentation audiences have included the Center for Technology Commercialization, Manchester University, UK; The Entrepreneurial University Initiative at Oxford University in the UK, UT's Engineering Leadership Institute, the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals and the National Association of Planning Councils.Tommy is available for consulting, coaching, keynote presentations and training.
