The Open Door Mission, founded in 1954, is a faith- and evidence-based recovery and rehabilitation 9-month residential facility dedicated to the mission of transforming the lives of the most severely addicted, destitute, homeless and disabled men in our community. We employ a multifaceted mind, body and spiritual approach with programs of recovery, learning and healing, abuse, poverty and violence. We are deeply committed to providing a nurturing and spiritual community for men who are making the transition from street life and addiction to recovery and self-sufficient living through our three programs. The Alan and Ann Craft DoorWay Drug/Alcohol Recovery Program is able to house 150-plus men in a 9-month residential program. The Russell M. Scott, Jr. M.D. Convalescent Care Center provides homeless men a safe, short-term environment in which to convalesce from surgery, injury or illness. The Education Center continues the care and support of the men in its programs by providing conventional educational opportunities to those seeking GED certification, literacy classes and/or training in basic computer skills.

Assisting clients with basic human needs consisting of government-issued photo identification and backup documentation for those unable to pay for it. Assist those living on the streets of Houston and surrounding areas to secure affordable housing and treatment programs as necessary and mentor/assist with rent and utility payments and long term budgeting through three ministries: Operation ID, Shepherd's Center, and Holy Ground.
