Primary Responsibilitieso The design, development and implementation of new database components to support new products and developments, using native DB/2 functionality, within the IBM iSeries platform.o Enhancement, upgrade and expansion of the legacy database on the IBM iSeries.o Development of tools and utilities to simplify the control and management of all database components.o Ensure the integrity and accuracy of the data in the database by expanding the validation and security protocols.o Providing complete and accurate documentation of all components of the database utilizing the open-source Wikipedia software.Additional Responsibilitieso Training of the iSeries development staff in advanced RPGILE techniques and methodologieso Training the iSeries development staff in the use of “User Interface Manager” (UIM) to develop 5250 screen interfaces for the maintenance of database files. This included developing a tool to generate skeleton code from the database file definitions to improve productivity. Using the tool it was possible to create a full maintenance program for a single database file in a little under 3 minutes.o Providing consultation and assistance in the design and development of RPGILE application solutions to the iSeries development team.Other involvementso Conceived, designed, developed and implemented a communications sub-system to transfer information from one platform to another utilizing TCP/IP sockets processing API’s available on the iSeries.o Was instrumental in introducing the Websphere Development Studio and the “Turnover” change control and work management system to enhance the productivity of the development team and control the application and database changes and testing.

I and two other partners formed Surtsey Systems in 1989, to provide consulting, support, education and application development services to the System/36 and AS/400 user base.My responsibility as technical director was to manage and support the consultants and programmers on the staff, varying from 4 to 12 over the years and to provide high level consulting services and sales support to the marketing director.I was personally involved in the provision of services to customers and throughout my time with Surtsey was involved in delivering solutions to customers as well as managing my own team of programmers.Education & TrainingI have written and presented courses to many customers over the last 12 years, and have always ensured that the content is completely in line with new functionality available from the AS/400 operating system.o AS/400 Operations Trainingo Security and Access Control – Setup and Managemento AS/400 User Interface Manager (UIM)o AS/400 Advanced Applications Development WorkshopI have presented a number of papers and topics to the AS/400 Concept Users group and was awarded the “Best Technical Speaker” award at the last “Year of the Guru” conference in 1995.
