The traditional, centralized model requires that documents be checked into a central repository if an enterprise needs any control over their lifecycle. In the new world, this is not possible; documents are scattered throughout email, users’ hard drives and a host of other locations. This chaos has many consequences, one of the most costly being that cost of eDiscovery.To solve this problem, we created a novel architecture that is capable of tracking and acting upon the many copies and versions of a document as they evolve by ad hoc means. In a sense, NextPage acts like both a GPS for documents (it knows where and what they are) and a remote control (it can control their lifecycles by applying policies).The system is deployed in multiple full-enterprise accounts. NextPage was acquired by Proofpoint in January 2012.
