About Tom Oliphant

Tom Oliphant is a Principal Engineer at Skeleton Key. Colleagues describe him as "Tom is the model gameplay programmer - he's smart, well-organized and efficient, and brings with him an excellent game design sense. That combination is invaluable, and I would highly recommend Tom to anyone seeking a gameplay programmer. As DLC Design Lead, I spent a lot of time hovering over Tom's shoulder, whether it was asking for feature X to be exposed to data-driven tweaks, requesting that feature Y be hooked up, or wondering how feature Z worked over the hood. Whatever the reason for my visit, Tom always took the time to deliver the information or functionality I needed without any impact to his previously scheduled work. On a few occasions, we had to throw him some last-minute curveballs, and he took each one like a champ and turned out fantastic work.", "Tom is one of those employees you wish you could clone, He's talented, smart, fast and can work on anything you need him to. Tom helped with nearly every facet of Starhawk's gameplay code and always did so with a great attitude and excitement to learn something new. I could simply point Tom in a direction and be sure that he would have it working. Tom made significant contributions to our game’s vehicles, character animation, stats, skills, cameras, HUD, pickups, network synchronization and tons more. I can’t count the time kept us on schedule by diving in, quickly understanding a problem and coding up a solution.", and "Tom is one of the most awesome gameplay programmers I've ever worked with. We first worked together early in each of our careers, at Incognito Entertainment as designers, and he quickly earned my respect. After a brief hiatus he rejoined our team, now spun-off as LightBox Interactive, as a gameplay programmer. What he's done is successfully marry good design sense with excellent technical ability: he's an amazing programmer to work with because when I bring him a design, he has the experience and intuition to understand the logic that underpins that design. That gives him great insight into potential issues, feasibility, and opportunities the design team hadn't considered. And his ability to execute designs quickly and accurately is unparalleled, making him an excellent go-to guy for rapid iteration."
