About Tom Pitt
Energetic, highly motivated, inquisitive, innovative, efficient. These are the main words I and others would use to describe myself and how I work. I am driven by understanding and improvement, I have a deep desire to understand, which drives my inquisitive nature. I use this to constantly learn and produce innovative ideas and solutions to projects and problems.I don’t believe in failure, only learning. No great innovations were ever produced without trying, falling and trying again. This is my mentality, I am not afraid to try and learn, or make mistakes throughout the process. This is evident in my experience, from studying engineering to designing complex mechanical and thermal systems to novel robotics, I tried, made mistakes, learnt from those mistakes and succeeded. To me, challenges are opportunities, I have no better sense of achievement than solving a difficult challenge and pushing myself out of my comfort zone to do so. I am highly experienced in the design of mechanical, thermal and industrial systems. Competent in the use of Siemens SolidEdge and Dassault SolidWorks CAD systems, along with Ansys Mechanical, CAD Integrated FEA and Mentor Graphics (Siemens) FloEFD CFD, along with Aras PLM for data management. Within Oxford Instruments I am known as a CAD & Simulation expert, which I regularly use to assist in challenging problems and supporting other Engineers in the team.I am passionate about simulation driven design, as I know and am fully versed on how this method of design produces better, more reliable products, faster than traditional methods, and reduces physical iteration and prototyping (and associated cost).Whilst my passion is Engineering and designing innovative solutions, that is not all you need to succeed as a good Engineer. I am organised, timely and a great communicator that knows how to engage people of all backgrounds to explain and update on designs and projects. I meticulously plan and detail projects I manage to ensure resources and costs are spent wisely for the projects goal. I produce clear and explanatory documentation to specify and detail mine and others work. I have an appreciation and understanding of industry standards and how to use them to the projects advantage.
