Boulder Creek Technologies invents and manufactures machines to perform extraction of cannabinoids from hemp plants. One is an oil infusion machine that produces ~55 gallons of full spectrum tincture every 7 working days. The other machine vaporizes the cannabinoid molecules with hot air, and then condensed into an oil that is ready for consumption.I ran the oil infusion machine for roughly a year and helped build and optimize the vaporization machine for the last year and a half. I have also been on one of the installs for the vaporization unit.

Operated machines in order to extract Cannabidiol (CBD) from hemp, in order to get CBD oil. I also managed the operator staff and made schedules for both shifts (1st and 2nd). I set up all accounts for supplies, waste removal, solvents and parts.

I opened the lab and put it all together from a storage unit. The starting equipment came from Symyx Technologies and I organized and gas plumbed the lab within the space we had. I set up all vendor accounts for lab necessities, and maintained the accounts as well as ordering for their duration. I performed troubleshooting for all machines in lab and performed in-house, inexpensive repairs as often as possible. I maintained and calibrated all equipment, routinely. I wrote all SOP's for salt production, as well as for the individual machines within the process. Using those SOP's, I trained all employees how to use the equipment, and run the process. I also handled all of the waste removal, including some hazardous materials. I was responsible for all shipping and receiving, especially hazardous materials packages. I had the unique experience of closing the lab because funding ran out and the chemistry lab was closed.

I worked in a small team of chemists trying to discover a new eutectic salt to be used in concentrated power plants, especially tower systems. We were able to produce >22,000 unique eutectic salt compounds, and patent a few. One in particular was developed, patented, and tested by Halotechnics, Inc. in a pilot scale plant, built by Halotechnics, Inc. Though the testing went well and the milestones of the grant were reached, we were unable to get the salt into a working system, like the Solar Power Tower, in the Mohave Desert. Not even the 3000+ hour corrosion test I performed at 700C was not enough to convince the people at the Sandia National Laboratories to let us put our salt into the Solar Power Tower. Thus, we started to find different, less corrosive, salts to be used as thermal storage for alternative sources of energy like wind and solar. While the engineering and chemistry teams were able to devise an interesting multi-tank (both hot and cold) system, using a cascading flow to keep the salt hot or cold. Unfortunately, two large grant opportunities were missed, and this caused the chemistry department to be closed first (8/15), and eventually the company folded (10/15).

As the team leader, it was my responsibility to ensure the robot came out of production with all the correct hardware and software. I would then train the robotic hardware, and then use the software to run many simulated experiments on the machine, in preparation for test according to the agreed upon validation document. The customer would come to California where I would perform the validation experiment, and prove its accuracy to the specified standards, according to the document. Once success had been achieved, I followed the system to its new home where another validation test, and accuracy standard were run and met with success. Finally, I would train the necessary employees of the client how to operate, maintain and calibrate the system. Because of unknown reasons, Symyx Technologies was broken up with research being closed and many layoffs occurring. I was part of that downsizing. Symyx no longer exists as the Tools section spun out into a new company, Free Slate, and the software part of the company was sold so Accelyres.
