Resident Service Coordinator

Battle Buddy - Peer Support Specialist For Veterans
Working as a Peer Support Specialist, I worked for Veteran Peer Access Network (VPAN) at Veterans West of Battleship Iowa. My mission was to outreach veterans who needed help in Supervisory District 4 (SD-4) in Los Angeles County, by providing the necessary resources to veterans who may not be aware of, try to make their transitioning process as smooth as possible. I have outreached veterans who are in permanent supportive housings, veterans who make frequent visits at some of the multi service centers, churches, veteran resources center in colleges, and veterans who spend their days and knights on the streets, riverbanks in Southern LA County. - Outreaching: Did every day outreaching to veterans I received referrals through Unite Us referral platform, veterans who visit at the Multi Service Center in Long Beach, to a church where they go to get breakfasts, veterans residing at the Plaza Permanent Supportive Housing in the Century Village at Cabrillo (CVC), informing about the type of services VPAN do offer.- Reconning: Collaborating with DMH and other veteran service organizations, we formed some groups of bi-weekly reconning to locate homeless veterans in city streets and riverbanks, asking if they need any help.- Resource Fairs: Hosted several resource fairs for veterans and their families who resides within SD-4, introducing the type of services VPAN offers to veterans, such as VA benefit screenings, medical benefits, housings, education, clothing and food. - Meal events: Hosted events for providing meals to veterans, such as having a BBQ gathering in the summer and giving out boxed meals during the Holiday Season at the Battleship IOWA and at the Plaza in CVC.- Inviting veterans: The Battleship IOWA is a museum that many veterans wanted to visit. We have invited tens of veterans from both LA and Orange Counties, fulfilling their thoughts of what they wanted to do for quite some time.
Veteran Outreach Coordinator
As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, I worked for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA), handling the veteran outreach program throughout Los Angeles County. My mission was to let the veterans become aware of our veteran program, "Habitat for Heroes" (H4Hero). The program featured Home Ownership, Home Repairs, Volunteers and Employment opportunities. I did the following activities to spread our message. - Presentations: I visited at veteran services organizations (VSOs), veteran resource centers in schools and public libraries, and did presentations by power point or by disseminating sales kits.- Resource fairs: Resource fairs were held 20+ times a year in various locations in LA County and these were great opportunities enabling to engage with resource seeking veterans and got to introduce our program. - Community meetings: There were several community meetings held monthly and I had opportunities to introduce our program to professionals from other VSOs. H4Hero includes volunteer program and I was in charge of recruiting veteran and active service member volunteers for our build events. I got in touch with VSOs, schools, and Habitat LA's Veteran Advisory Council, especially when the following two events were held.- Fleet Week Build: Annually held during Fleet Week, Labor Day weekend. I recruited 40+ active service member volunteers each year, mostly from the Navy, some from the Coast Guard, the USMC, and the Canadian Navy, building affordable homes.- Veterans Build: Featuring veteran volunteers and hosting at various military related facilities in LA County, this event is held annually during the Veterans Day weekend. Being one of the major volunteer event that Habitat LA hosts, I have recruited 70+ veteran volunteers each year for this event and received great cooperation from VSOs and universities.Also, served as a committee member for both, Metro's employment fair and City of Compton's resource fair, in 2018 and 2019.
