I have a passion for giving everyone access to the possibilities present in the outdoors. I am able to fulfill this passion through a full time Instructor/ Tutor role working with a wide variety of clients from across the UK and beyond. Including the full spectrum of educational groups, from Primary to University. I also work with various other groups, including charities, clubs, societies and corporate courses. Offering bespoke experiences for every client through Skern and Skern Training and Skills.

Over past winters I have aimed to undertake a mix of Outdoor Instructor and Supply Work. This grew to become mainly Supply Work due to the Corona Virus. l taught a year three class at Bude Primary, despite being secondary trained. l continued this through the last Lockdown for vulnerable and Key Worker children. Finishing this role at Easter. I then stepped back into the Outdoor Industry as an Outdoor Activity Instructor/ Tutor at Skern Lodge.

As an Outdoor Activity Instructor at Adventure 24/7 I worked Part time from 2018 onwards, moving to a full time contract on 1st August 2020. As a result of the Corona Virus and various other contributing factors the business closed.Adventure 24/7 works with children and young people who are experiencing complicated life circumstances. Through the provision of an activity programme involving a variety of outdoor and other related activities, aimed at supporting personal and social development.

An Instructor Role at Moorland Hall on Dartmoor. Working with a variety of UK and International groups. Involving a wide variety of mainly offsite land and water based outdoor and cultural activities. I also drove centre minibuses to transport groups to and from activities and various airports. Over the Winter I assisted with staff Interviews for the 2020 season and passed my Beach Lifeguard. I started the 2020 season at Moorland Hall up until the first Lockdown began.

A seasonal role working as part of a Senior Team. A mainly centre based Instructor role focusing on leading a wide variety of land and water based activities. Working with a range of age groups including NCS, residentials, corporate, family, birthday party and stag and hen groups. I was also involved in offsite activities including walking, cycling, coasteering and Wilderness Camp activities.

After 10 years in Teaching I chose to retrain. I began by undertaking an Intensive Outdoor Instructor Training Course with an emphasis on developing both hard and soft skills. The focus of the course is to work toward recognised National Governing Body (NGB) Qualifications, while also developing key soft skills required to provide a strong foundation as an Outdoor Professional. The disciplines the course focuses on are Kayaking, Canoeing, Sea Kayaking, SUP, Climbing, Walking/ Navigation and Beach Lifeguard. The course also included various land, river and sea based expeditions to further develop a strong skills base.

This role involved teaching KS3 Design and Technology, with a focus on Engineering at KS4. I also taught Maritime Studies with involvement in both theory and practical aspects of study. As part of this role I was able to work towards a variety of RYA Qualifications.

It may be quotes that inspire you, landmarks that you pass or the kit that you wear.I have worked under the Tomtangle name to produce a line of outdoor inspired t shirts, which I sold through my own website. While also producing a variety of graphic designs for various sporting events.

Teaching a variety of subjects across secondary schools in Hull and The East Riding. Including longer term roles at Northcott Special School and Thomas Ferens Academy, where I taught subjects including Design and Technology, PE and Computer Science. My aim was to move into a full time Design and Technology teaching role, which I achieved through successfully obtaining a Teacher of Technology role at Hull Trinity House Academy.

This role involved teaching Product Design, Graphics and Textiles to both KS3 and KS4. With two GCSE Product Design (Textiles) groups. I was also an Associate Tutor and initally taught across a variety of other subjects including PE. This role was a fixed term maternity cover contract.

Working at Marshlands Children's Centre, Marshlands Primary School. With Pre-School children (3-5). This role involved collaborating with various staff to deliver a variety of practical tasks.

This job involved teaching product design, graphics, construction and art and design. Working with the 11 - 18 age group. I also taught students from Frederick Holmes Special School and was a personal tutor. I moved on from this role to gain experience in a wider variety of teaching environments and to develop my own design work.

I completed my GTP and NQT years at Sir Henry Cooper. My role included teaching product design, graphics, engineering, textiles and food. I had a tutor group and ran a school athletics club.
