Child Search And Transition Coordinator
CurrentIn the position of Child Search/Transition Facilitator, my primary responsibility is to assist in the organization, administration, and coordination of programs and services as they relate to special education students, who have moderate to severe disabilities and are placed in self-contained settings. I serve as the "point of entry" for children who are exiting the Early Steps Program (birth to three years of age) into the Iberia Parish school system. As such, I am required to identify, locate, and evaluate children from three years through twenty-one years of age who are suspected of having a disability. This includes children who attend private schools, highly mobile students, migrant students, homeless students, and students who are wards of the state. The position also places special emphasis for assistance on students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, supervise Homebound and Early Interventionist.My role as the Transition Facilitator requires cohabitation with various adult agencies in providing information to students and parents concerning adult programs, vocational opportunities, and postsecondary training programs. Additionally, I assist teachers in writing transition plans that preparestudents for life after high school. To ensure academic success through the Unique Learning System, a collaborative effort is made to assist teachers with the implementation of instructional strategies and practices that meet the diverse educational needs of students addressing alternate standards. I coordinate and present professional development in the areas of autism, transitions, visual supports, LEAP Connect, and behavioral interventions.
