I am a general pediatrician with over 25 years of diverse experience in a solo pediatric practice, adult and pediatric emergency room and urgent care center, and pediatric urgent care centers. While still practicing now in pediatric urgent care, I am also leading a software development company called Dynamic Health Inventions, LLC which is working to develop patient empowerment software to help patients and parents seek care at the right place and time for the right concern. I can be reached at tomtryonmd@gmail.com or through LinkedIn. Following residency, I practiced for four years as a solo practitioner and the sole pediatrician in a small town in Oklahoma. I then joined a group practice for a short stint in an urban community before transitioning to an urban solo practice for six years. In 2006, I returned to Children’s Mercy where I led the innovation and implementation of one of the largest pediatric urgent care programs in the world which now provides care to almost 100,000 patients each year and generates $100 million in revenue. I am a passionate advocate for physicians and healthcare providers, the practice of Pediatrics, and for children and families. I have served on the executive committee of state American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) chapters in both Oklahoma and Missouri, including as Missouri Chapter President. Recently, I served as Chair of the AAP Committee on Membership. In 2013 I was selected to be one of two candidates on the ballot for the prestigious President-Elect of the AAP. Following an unsuccessful campaign, I was a finalist to be the CEO of the AAP.Most recently I was Pediatric Section Chair for the Urgent Care Association, was elected to the Board of Directors and elected by the board to be Secretary of the Board before resigning that position in April 2022. I have served in leadership roles for all three hospitals I have served during my 22 year career, including serving in multiple medical staff leadership roles such as Chief of Medicine, Chief of Quality Improvement, Chief of OB/Peds and on the PHO Board of two hospitals. In 2013 I completed my executive MBA at the UMKC Bloch School of Management in Kansas City.

Following my appointment as the Section Chief of the Northland Urgent Care in 2008, I worked with administration to develop a Division of Urgent Care which was established in 2011. I created the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of our Urgent Care program, along withe the Scope of Service and Talking Points for Community Providers. I opened the second urgent care in 9 weeks and the third in 9 months. Since, we have grown to provide care for almost 100,000 children each year with annual revenues of nearly $100 million.
