Maritime Pressure Works Limited is a locally owned Nova Scotia company founded in 1998 and provides services to a number of industry sectors including large industrial, light industrial, commercial/institutional and the marine ship repair industry. Our head office is located in Dartmouth, NS while our 7000 square foot fabrication facility, with approximately 4 acres of lay down area, is located in Springhill, Nova Scotia (close to the Nova Scotia/New Brunswick border). Our geographic market consists primarily of the Maritimes, although we have completed recent assignments in Quebec, Alberta, and Newfoundland and Labrador.Maritime Pressure Works specializes in the installation, repair, condition assessment, field repairs (both emergency as well as scheduled non-emergencies) of steam and hot water boilers and associated equipment. This includes high pressure water tube steam boilers, high pressure fire tube steam boilers, pressure part manufacturer, build and install large industrial economizers (both finned as well as bare tube), super heater fabrication, and field installation. These services represent the core business of the company. We provide 24/7 – 365 days/year emergency service to all of our existing and future clients. Complete boiler outage management service is also available.

Work closley with the JOHS Committee and all staff to obtain zero safety incidents, updating of Brooklyn Power safety program to AbitibBowater safety standards (including safe work, confined space, and hot work permit systems), review provincial safety legislation and update plant policies as necessary to comply with legislation.Ensure the Power Purchase Agreement between Brooklyn Power and NSPI is followed to maximize revenue, schedule plant generation on a daily basis. Responsible for all aspects of corporate reporting for the facility, plant staffing, budgeting, policy development, direction of all plant departments (including Maintenance, Operations, Electrical, Instrumentation and administrative staff). Communicate and file reports with various levels of federal, provincial, and municipal governments applicable to the facility such as the Federal and Provincial Environment Acts, Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act. Part of the Senior Management Team of the Bowater Mersey Paper Company.

Supervision and scheduling of plant operations, work with Maintenance Coordinator and E&I Coordinator to schedule daily work requirements. Coordinate daily work requirements between government, industry, private contractors, community, and Brooklyn Power Corporation. Fill in for the Plant Manager as required. Part of Brooklyn Power Corporation management team involved in the sale of Brooklyn Power Corporation to Bowater Mersey Paper Company (AbitibiBowater) in April 2008. Implement, oversee, and coordinate with other departments the construction of several Capital Improvement projects and major maintenance items including: major overhaul of a Dresser Rand 31 MWe turbine and installation of new generator rotor (2.0m), upgrade of water treatment plant (250k), new water intake system (1.8m), PLC upgrades (80k), and various other modifications. The projects required me to pull teams and resources together with great attention to detail to be successfully implemented on time and within budget. Coordinate plant outage work with Brooklyn Power departments, provincial boiler inspector, and plant insurance company.

Supervising and leading a crew on a rotating shift basis which included assigning work for the shift, and active participation in the development and implementation of practices and standards for thermal plant operations. Instrumental in the successful commissioning of the provinces largest independent cogeneration plant. Work with management, maintenance, and operations to develop the safe work procedures for the plant.

Lingan Generating Station

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of electrical generating units. Constructed in the 1970s, Lingan's four units (primarily coal; also Bunker 'C' and light fuel oil) were commissioned separately from 1979-1983. Lingan is Nova Scotia Power’s largest generating station with a capacity of 620 MW.
