Veterinary / Pet Care Operations

Scope: To improve / build upon the base of a pet hospital chain, consisting of five hospitals, and 200 mobile vaccine clinics. Teamed with the Petco pet food chain, goal was to start the process of building 200+ hospitals to reinforce the primary mobile vaccine model and support the host companies by growing their bottom line through repeated exposure of their customers to our (VETCO) pet hospital services and continued treatment of their pets.

Scope: To create a revolutionary, retail based hearing aid Company, using new patented technologies, and employing known retail / healthcare concepts to bring Zounds from an idea to fruition. Employed in the first few months of existence, was the sole retail experience charged with taking a vision and creating a viable retail store concept that met corporate goals. Selected Key Performance Indicators:Created a new exciting and interactive hearing aid store concept, by melding marketing and retail with healthcare employing the interaction of consumers and hearing healthcare professionals into a retail setting.Created all procedures and processes from known healthcare professionals, concentrating on best practices, and developed the company standards, processes, and all associated operations.

Franchise Operations / Realtor®Scope: To acquire a personal real estate license for an applicable knowledge base and to transform / fine tune a single, profitable real estate office and create a model competitive within the real estate market applicable for franchising. :Instrumental in the organization and streamlining of Realtor® obligations both legal and procedure based to create a model for duplication.

Scope: Responsible for the transition of PetSmart owned Veterinary hospitals, encompassing Professional and hospital support staff, and their immersion and training into the structured Banfield policy and procedural enhancements to the business. Staffing / re-staffing of all hospital personnel to secure profitability conducive to the goals and structure of the Banfield System. Full P&L responsibility.Selected Key Performance Indicators:Recruited and staffed Nevada and Utah hospitals to attain profitability, inventory control procedures and hospital goals, previously unattained by previous PetSmart owners.Promoted to Senior Field Director in Colorado with responsibility of re-creating previous markets goals.Broke historical corporate record with Colorado market turnaround in 2000 by achieving 150% of sales volume goal with appropriate cost center management. Turned 50% of Professional and tech staffing, removing ineffective personnel, and created a team focused on attaining profitability and shrink goals.Strategic Planning:Created a Training Leader position geared to the training and assimilation of Banfield policies & procedures in the Colorado market which resulted in highlighted customer satisfaction scores as compiled through a third party service scoring organization.

Scope: To establish two new optical markets for EyeMasters in Nevada and Utah. Responsible for overseeing the construction, recruitment, staffing, and opening of two states while managing cost and securing a profitable market. Full P&L responsibility. (Financial cutbacks forced the elimination of the emerging markets stores to protect the assets of the established markets. Position was eliminated)

Scope: Recruited to organize and improve operations in company with previous operational “opportunities” and re-train corporate and store associate’s focus on the growth of retail sales operations, moving away from a less profitable previous focus on Medical procedures pertaining to laser eye surgery. Full P&L responsibility. (Realized growth could not offset prior loss, company was sold, and subsequently closed) Selected Key Performance Indicators:Directed Regional Directors, Laboratory Operations and Merchandising Department through a successful assimilation of 30+ new stores raising the corporate total to 60+ locations with the addition of two additional states and optical companies.Simplified a sales tool that increased average dollar sale by 15%Increased private label, high profit margin sales from a historical 1% to 12%Built sales by 4% in a 3% market category historical growth, same units, despite corporate growth of 8% in third party programs resulting in lower ticket sales and same unit cannibalization.

Store OperationsScope: Oversaw construction, recruitment, and start-up of new Optical Company. Trained and mentored Managing Directors (owners) of Polish, Latvian and Argentinean franchise owners of International Vision Express stores on sales training and goal setting. Recruited by former LensCrafter’s founder Dean Butler, to duplicate LensCrafter’s success in the new venture overseas, and to consult with current store operations executives throughout the United Kingdom. Consulted with CEO and CFO to improve capture rate and customer service in 120+ Vision Express stores re-creating and implementing programs and policies previously successful in the LensCrafter’s organization. (Company flourished and was purchased by Grand Optical (France), with partners and key personnel stock ownership buy-out.)

Promoted throughout tenure with LensCrafters with continued store count responsibility. Directed 80+ LensCrafter’s locations in West and subsequently 120 locations in the Midwest utilizing eight Regional Operations Directors and eight Laboratory Directors. Full P&L responsibility.Selected Key Performance Indicators:Exceeded planned income and sales for all fiscal years.Opened a new territory which emerged as a consistent leader in customer satisfaction scores as well as improved conversion percentages.Contributed a record 14.7% comparable store sales growth vs. a plan of 5.2% with 160% profit achievement vs. plan in 1993.Reduced shrink from 3.4% to .9% by creation of a program rewarding consistent inventory management.Reduced store labor cost by 20% by the creation and implementation of a Cross training program later adopted and refined throughout LensCrafters.Increased average dollar sale by 15% by creating and implementing a package selling philosophy utilizing specific selling tools designed specifically for LensCrafters.
