Passion, that's what it's all about for me. Throughout my professional career, I have been passionate about learning: how to teach myself, how to teach others and how to make that learning process as interesting and enjoyable as possible. For more than 20 years, I have focused on how to get people to learn: be it young people or adults, be it theatre, history or IT, I don't really care.... Although. IT has always been a driver. When I was a teenager, an uncle gave me a Tandy pocket computer as a gift for my birthday. In the manual, I read how to program in BASIC on that little thing. From then on, I was lost. I was one of those freaks who spent hours on my parents' 80386 computer. To play games, of course, but I liked to alternate that with writing batch files in MS DOS. As happened with any early adopter, I was quickly found doing computer maintenance and repair for friends and family. There, I discovered that explaining how to work with a computer is if not even more fun than programming.So in the end I did not choose a path as a programmer or web designer, but became a teacher and later IT trainer and coach. For sixteen years, I taught Computer Science to third-grade Computer Management and Accounting-Informatics students in Technical Secondary Education. My (until then unknown to myself) sky-high ambitions and need for constant challenges made me opt for a role as an IT trainer in the corporate world. In companies, a multiple of the total school budget is invested in IT. And yet I was amazed: why is it that these huge investments in hardware and software are not matched by an equally large increase in the ROI ? Computers were faster and more sophisticated in business, but the skills and knowledge of the users of that fancy stuff were often not much more advanced than those of my former colleagues in education....Mission accepted! I am absolutely convinced that the crucial catalyst of ROI is the end-user of that IT stuff him- or herself. You have to inspire, train and coach that end user. That way, you not only increase the ROI of your IT equipment, but you also increase the ROI of the budgets invested in IT training. And that is my new passion: I inspire and coach our customers on how to make sure they make full use of the stuff they are already paying for. With passion, because I can't do without.
