Having completed my doctoral studies in Rome in June 2010, I returned to the diocese and was appointed as Diocesan Advisor for Post-Primary Religious Education in the dioceses of Achonry and Killala. The bishop also asked me to act as Director of Formation for the Permanent Diaconate in the diocese of Achonry and appointed me as resident priest in the parish of Kilfree-Killaraght where I served two church areas: Cloonloo and Killaraght. Parish ministry was short-lived, however, as in August 2011 I was appointed as President and Principal of St Nathy's College. I had previously worked in my alma mater as chaplain from September 2003 until September 2005 so I was lucky enough to know the vast majority of the teaching and ancillary staff. Since I took up this appointment it has been a steep learning curve as there are so many facets to the job. Needless to say, no two days are ever the same. There are many challenges associated with this work and there are many moments when I am awed by the responsibility and humbled by the privileged opportunity to influence the lives of others for the good as, together, we strive to bring Gospel values to bear on our living in this learning community with Jesus present in our midst (cf.
