About Antony (Tony) Butterfield

As the inventor of Resource Oriented Computing and architect of NetKernel, I have pursued a vision of creating robust, adaptable enterprise middleware* in a revolutionary way. I have worked in all aspects of the business from developing critical core technologies, managing development teams, working with and supporting customers, to the many varied tasks in growing a startup.1060 invented the micro-services concept and coined the phrase back in 2005, long before the world caught up. We took those ideas deep into software to provide solidly engineered components for the information architectures of today and tomorrow. Resource oriented micro-services have the potential to revolutionise software development, and the software systems build (the process and it's artefacts) Novel approaches to solving the problems of Internet-scale systems I have created include computation caches, distributed scoping, and software-defined architecture.I honed my skills at various organisations from the very largest: Lucent Technologies, Hewlett Packard, and IBM, down to the solo development of 8-bit video games in the '80s.Beyond enterprise software, my broad interests cross over into the Internet of Things, video game development, advanced computer graphics, and music production techniques.I gained an excellent foundation in both the hardware and software aspects of computing with a BSc in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Warwick. A lifelong learning journey is important to me, and I am continually pushing into new areas of knowledge and improving my skills. In 2020 I gained Google certifications of Professional Cloud Architect and Professional Data Engineer.* The plumbing that holds and connects all the other bits of software together.
