I began my healthcare career in the clinical setting---I wanted to make a difference. I came to believe we could do better than a pencil and a clipboard when visiting our physician offices. As I became the CIO in my career, I wanted to ensure our clinicians would have access to all relevant clinical information to effectively treat all patients---whether the patient was seen in any acute or ambulatory setting. I can now say I implemented the electronic medical record in my hometown health system---but have done the same from Syracuse, New York to Miami, Florida and many more east of the Mississippi River. Patient care has been improved and the clinician experience has been enhanced as well.
