About Toni Able

Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education with minors in Art History and Visual Arts from Lander University. Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) credential and an American Hospital Association’s Health Forum Healthy Communities Fellow. Seven years of experience in preparing middle school and high school students for post-secondary education and careers. Twenty-three years of total program responsibility for two nonprofit community-based organizations. Proven effectiveness in the areas of academic achievement, school success, and life-skills that impact school performance and college access, readiness, enrollment, and success preparing students for lifelong education. An effective collaborator who initiates appropriate actions and strategies and can work successfully without constant direction and close supervision. My husband and I have three successful adult children; one is a Lead Clinical Specialist, and two are Attorneys. I enjoy hiking, traveling, specifically to Italy, reading historical fiction WWII novels, cooking, discovering new, bold, and interesting red wines. I am a proud member of the SC Barbeque cook team of the year for 2018 and 2019 - Hey Good Buddy Competition Barbecue Team.

We also serve as a connector and convener of all early childhood stakeholders in Laurens County.Laurens County First Steps is a local partnership of South Carolina First Steps, the state’s dedicated early childhood initiative. As with each local partnership, we operate as an independent nonprofit with a local board and staff. Because our community has unique needs and resources, we tailor our offerings to best meet the needs of local families.

GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. This grant is a cohort model grant, with our cohort being the entire 11th grade. The grant is working with the 2020 graduates of LDHS 55 and started in the 7th grade. I serve as the graduates (368 graduates) mentor, life coach, and counselor.

I increased the awareness of the Asset Based Community Development concept to associations by providing training and coordination of speakers. Supported, educated, and trained neighborhood associations on grant writing procedures. The organization was formed out of the Neighborhood Development division of the Greenwood Area Chamber of Commerce. Filed all documents for incorporation as a 501 C (3) corporation.
