The Wall of Smell is a permanent exhibit where visitors experience a dense range of scents in a tunnel of about 16 meters long, and dimly lit. The experience focuses on exploring what the molecules in the tunnel provoke in the mind and memory of the visitors. It's an individual sentimental journey, guided by volatile odorants. Ton van Harreveld is founder and chairman of the Odournet group of consultants that employs about 70 staff in six European countries, México, Brazil and India. In 2009 the world leader in olfactometer production, Ecoma GmbH, joined the group, to form Odournet GmbH.Odournet specialises in all aspects of consultancy related to environmental annoyance caused by odour and senssory testing of products and materials. Many hundreds of odour related surveys are conducted each year, using four accredited laboratories for olfactometry and our cutting edge molecular aroma laboratory (GCMS/TOF) to provide supporting data. Odournet develops and markets olfactometers and associated software for odour sampling and measurement, and is market leader for supply of these instruments. Ton was closely associated with developing the European CEN standard EN 13725 for olfactometry.As a senior consultant he was responsible for background studies underpinning policy development in Ireland, Holland and the UK, including the R&D document on community impacts for the H4 Horizontal IPPC Guidance on Odour for the Environment Agency (UK). Currently Ton lives in Barcelona, Spain.

I intended to focus on creating the conditions for our staff to innovate, to share their knowledge and experience in our knowledge management infrastructure, to open doors to major accounts and contacts for bussiness development. Established an office in Bradford-on-Avon in the former Liberal Working Men's club and an accredited olfactometry laboratory. Was very fortunate to find Nick Jones to take over the lead in 2000. Olfascan, formerly PRG Odournet NV, was founded around a group of specialists in odour and GCMS analysis of odorants at the Gent University. As an independent company it grew from 4 to about 10 employees, and became a recognised centre of expertise and market leader in odour consultancy in Flanders. In 2011 the management at PRG expressed a strong desire to develop independently, leading to a full management buyout. The company continues as Olfascan.
