Following an education in design and typography, my learning ultimately helped define the modern sign industries’ future. Spandex PLC, my first employer, saw me at the creative helm of the world’s first computerised sign and graphic manufacturing hardware, accompanied by the brief "make it a world-wide success". They needed a designer with a grounding in type and it was my job to make sure this amazing machinery delivered lettering and output that transcended its own limitations.Spandex PLC went on to become the biggest company of its type in the world, propelled by an appetite that revolutionised design and production. I am proud to say that my fingerprints are all over this meteoric digital success and that I still see real-world examples of my work today.Bringing things up date, I own and run Voodoo DesignWorks. We are based just north of Bristol. To the uninitiated, we are cast in the role of a sign maker, but anyone who knows us will advocate we are so much more. Voodoo is home to a wonderful team of designers, inventive types and sound business strategists. We manage ourselves so that we encounter opportunities we love to engage - things that exercise the creative genes; briefs that have been met with blank looks elsewhere.Set against our own performance measures, Voodoo is a great success.
