Tony Bennett - Dr of Philosophy, MPhil & PGA Master Professional.Tony is the Head of Disability and Inclusion for the International Golf Federation but started his career as a playing professional. During his mid-twenties, Tony adjusted his pathway and became a club professional serving two private golf clubs for thirteen years. Tony became a lecturer at the P.G.A Training School, a position he held for ten years. Tony was the National Coach of the Federation of Portuguese Golf for seven years, after which he developed and ran six golf learning centres. He has coached winners on both the European and Ladies European Tour. In 2008 he became the Director of Education & Membership for the Professional Golfers Associations’ of Europe, more recently known as the Confederation of Professional Golf, a role he thoroughly enjoyed until leaving to take up his current position in February 2019.Tony was credited for modernising and contributing to the game of golf in Portugal and received recognition from the former President of the Republic Dr Jorge Sampaio, in the form of a presidential Order of Merit award. Tony completed his PhD. in Philosophy at Durham University (UK) and has a Masters in the same subject from Birmingham University (UK). He brings a wealth of knowledge to the development of innovative and far-reaching projects around the world. He has worked/collaborated with many of golf's leading organisations and continues to be involved in several European Commission initiatives. Tony was granted Master Professional status of the PGA of GB&I in 2006 and, in 2021, was awarded Honorary Membership of the association. A committed life-long learner, Tony has completed the ASOIF Coach Educator course and regularly contributes to continuing professional development programmes worldwide. Tony was the chief writer of a book called MULLIGAN - tough love and second chances- made up of 18 remarkable stories of golfers who refuse to be defined by their disability.Voluntarily Tony leads the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA) in the role of President. EDGA is concerned with building an inclusive game in which golfers with a disability are included and valued at every level of golf's sampling, participation and competitive levels.
