Put in staging and booked artistes predominantly from the Irish Country and Showband scene. We averaged annually 800 customers a weekend at our peak. This was a brand-new venture and idea that I had for a medium to large business and children’s entertainment venue. I was backed in the project by my previous employer.I was answerable to the major investor/share holder (my previous employer). I recruited and was responsible for 2 operational managers, catering manager and bookkeeper. On opening I was employing a total of 28 staff mixed of both full and part-time employees.I ran the business from concept, creation to opening and until I left the business to return to entertainment.I drew up the business plan, worked with our accountant on costs, targets and forecasted income/expense accounts and projections for the first five years trading. I made presentations to banks and other potential investors, found the ideal property and negotiated terms of the lease. I dealt with architects and builders and project managed the building work on our 32k sq ft retail warehouse space.I worked with designers to ensure my vision of branding was carried throughout all the centre, website and marketing. I took responsibility for all the marketing and pr for the business. I ensured we complied with all the stringent Health and Safety, Child Protection and catering/food hygiene policies.I managed and updated daily financial forecasts and targets during the difficult first 12-month trading period.Our business was awarded ‘Best UK Play Centre’ and ‘Best New Innovative Health and Play Format’ in the national government sponsored play centre awards.
