Serves as a Financial Counselor/Advisor at Army Community Services, Financial Readiness Program. Provides financial management counseling, teaches money management courses and develops consumer awareness for military personnel, their family members and DA civilians in order to improve their basic financial skills and effectively manage their financial resources. Performs duties which require reconciliation, frequent problem solving, and discrepancy adjustments. Provides financial planning instruction and assistance to clients and their families. Conducts initial and follow-up interview, evaluate family’s financial status, educates clients on money management techniques and prepares debt re-payment plans. Negotiates with creditors concerning liquidation of indebtedness on a short-range basis, and advises clients of responses from creditors. Refers clients with long-range problems to proper legal authorities or credit counseling agencies. Has a working knowledge of military unit operations and Soldier’s responsibilities toward financial obligations, support of family members, etc. Works with private agencies, other government agencies and on-post services such as the American Red Cross, Chaplain’s Office, Social Work Services, Staff Judge Advocate, and Inspector General in order to resolve client’s problems. Develops and implements Consumer Awareness programs designed to make clients better informed consumers. Conducts financial briefings to large and small groups. Performs research and develops lesson plans that will meet the needs of clientele in educating them on financial responsibilities, to include but not be limited to avoidance of excess indebtedness, banking and credit union services, budget development, investing, debt liquidation, checking account management, credit, consumer rights and obligations.
