Tony Gray works on a portfolio of stakeholder relations and advisory roles with some of Australia’s leading public and private companies and business identities. He is also a non-executive director/investor in private companies including retail and technology start-ups. He is also a Director of fine jeweller Van Bercken.Tony’s unique strategic advice and support across government, public affairs, reputation and media management was honed during more than two decades as an executive with Australia’s largest private company Visy, notably as founder Richard Pratt’s personal advisor until his death in 2009. He was also a member of Visy’s Executive Committee. Gray was then appointed Visy’s Director of Sustainability where he developed expertise across environmental policy, community relations and liaison with the Pratt Foundation and other NGOs. Through his consultancy, Tony works for members of the Pratt family in Australia and the US as well as working with ASX100s, investment funds and some of Australia’s most influential business minds. He advises clients across the retail, financial, health, infrastructure and biotech sectors.Prior to joining Visy in 1991, Tony was a journalist with the Sydney Morning Herald, ABC Radio, The Age, BRW, and was a television news producer for Robert Gottliebsen. Tony has a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Queensland; is a Graduate of the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University, California and the Kellogg School of Management, Illinois. Tony retains a strong commitment to efficient, targeted stakeholder strategy that minimises risk, waste and maximises returns. Tony co-authored Richard Pratt’s publication "You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know Until You Know It," a collection of business sayings that is still in print. Tony is often known to cite his former boss, in particular: “If you have just escaped from the lion’s den, don’t go back for your hat.”
