I started a long and varied career in Property Development / Architecture / Construction etc. in the Early 90's balancing; studying part time for a degree (then post grad masters) in Architecture, alongside a full time position in a large corporate architectural practice, and a young family. The 10ish years that followed saw me working across different architectural sectors, broadening my skills in design, technical detailing and project management, then the real fun started with my first development project, buying a site in Wiltshire with an investing partner and constructing seven new houses.As you're no doubt aware, Architects know everything so developing seven houses myself would be a breeze! That was a near vertical learning curve and through the following 14 months I learned how much I didn't know. Move on another decade and I've re-located to Devon after having practiced in architecture for myself, and undertaken several further development projects, in Devon, France and Wiltshire.Now very embedded in South Devon, and with a near pathological desire not to be bored, I'm using my broad experience, with the welcome support of a very valued team, across different sectors of the Built Environment sector, under the banner of the Ortus Group which includes:Ortus | Property Development Managers. This is the core business and the main focus of my day to day where, with the support of my excellent team, we deliver property development management services, primarily to property developers, providing architectural, planning, and project management services. My experience as a developer has taught me the value of a commercial approach to projects. From the preliminary market viability to project delivery we understand the pressures and needs that face developers and tailor our services accordingly.Ortus | Property Development Forum. A specialist network that hosts regular live networking, and informative online, events for property developers, investors and owners across the South West.Ortus | Property Development Academy. A training platform for aspiring property developers with a focus on development project delivery. Then finally, and not really within the same stable, there's my pet project 'Architecture DIY'. An online training platform enabling home owners to produce and submit their own house holder planning applications.So there it is! 30+ years of very broad architectural, development and business experience and still, as always, looking for the next adventure.
