About Tony Ingham

At the 2011 Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Awards, I was kindly acknowledged for having made a significant impact on the cultural and physical landscape of Greater Manchester when I was awarded “Public Relations Professional of the Year”.My early career in running commercial radio stations in Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool, saw me introduce the talents of radio presenters Chris Evans and Mark Radcliffe among others. I launched Piccadilly Radio (now Key 103) as Marketing Manager and during my time as Programme Director, the station became one of the most renowned and successful in the country, winning huge audiences and numerous Sony Radio Awards.Changing careers into creating “hearts and minds” campaigns led to working on bids for landmark projects including the Manchester Commonwealth Games, The Lowry Arts Centre in Salford and the Imperial War Museum-North on Trafford Wharfside. In 2002, I established IPB Communications, specialising in Public Affairs. As Chief Executive, I steered the company to become one of the leaders in its field, achieving considerable commercial success. It is this work which earned the company the CIPR “PR Agency of the Year” award in 2008. IPB has worked with more than 80 Local Authorities as well as housing associations, regeneration agencies and developers on major housing and planning projects. In 2013, I sold my shareholding of the company to the management team.

    Manchester
I re-joined Staniforth PR to work on Manchester’s Olympic and Commonwealth Games bids. One of my proudest moments came when I orchestrated the now famous Manchester response to losing out to Sydney by getting the huge crowd to sing “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”. Those images were flashed around the world and enhanced Manchester’s reputation as a vibrant, fun-loving and proud city. The agency, then widely recognised as one of the leading PR consultancies in the country, introduced a Public Affairs team under my stewardship. I joined Salford Council’s Lowry Millennium Project Team, which successfully bid for £126 million Lottery funding for the development of the award-winning arts centre. To demonstrate public support for the project, I instigated a wide-ranging “hearts and minds” campaign with schools, local businesses and the media. Following the success of The Lowry, Trafford Council asked the agency to develop its bid to bring the Imperial War Museum to Trafford Wharfside. I worked with the project team and wrote the winning bid, which fought off 32 other towns and cities.
