Having always enjoyed a passion for helping people and the community in their time of need, I strongly believe in times of crisis and adversity people need a hand up, not only just a hand out. I have acquired this understanding throughout my career of some twenty three years with the Queensland Ambulance Service.I have held many positions within the QAS, including OIC, ROC, DO Paramedic and STRU Member. I have qualifications of Advanced Diploma of Health Administration, Practical Ambulance Leadership and Management and Associate Diploma of Applied Science, (Ambulance).In 2010 I stepped away from the QAS to undertake a new challenge of owning and operating a small business and have successfully run Cafe2U Geebung, a mobile coffee van operating in North Brisbane. This was a greenfield startup which has built up and today still has well over 25% of the original customers. Was awarded Queensland Franchisee of the year 2011 and remains one of the higher performing franchises.After watching a video article on social media in 2016, featuring the author Simon Sinek, has lead me to research and learn more about Simon and his passion of “inspiring people to do things they love” and to find their “WHY”. Your “WHY” is the purpose, cause, or belief that inspires you to do what you do. I have since gained a clearer understanding of my “WHY”, which is to help and assist people and the community of which I am part of. Through my “HOW’s”, the QAS and the Coffee Van, I have been helping people and my community in different ways for many years. As I continue to learn more about my “WHY” and myself, I am determined to utilise my skills and knowledge base that I have forged over many years to continue to assist people with a hand up through another “HOW”. My challenge now is to find a new career path, with a new set of “HOW’s” that fits my “WHY”, within an organisation that holds a kindred “WHY”, this will ensure we all go home everyday feeling fulfilled by our work.
