Tony's background includes Foreign Service Officer and Deputy Director of Peace Corps in Tunisia responsible for program planning, operations and government relations. Tony was also Managing Director at Chase Manhattan Bank with 20 years’ experience in International Lending and Capital Markets. The group created Commodity Derivatives and Tony managed teams in London and New York. He has lived and traveled extensively in the US, Central and Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East providing lending and product delivery to clients. He was Principal at Development Alternatives Inc. and CEO of NMB the largest bank branch network in Tanzania. He was also Chairman of the Tanzanian Bankers Association which comprised 31 banks and developed several policy initiatives with the government involving credit policy and labor regulations, and a member of the CEO roundtable in Tanzania, which worked on policy recommendations to the government and developed linkages with small business for local supplies. He restructured a small but strategically important Tier 2 Financial Institution in Uganda with a branch in the border area of Sudan and Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.Tony was Regional Director for Africa and Chairman of five affiliates of Finca International, one of the largest global providers of microfinance, with operations in Central America, Africa, and Central Asia including Afghanistan and Russia. As Chairman of the Board and Regional Director oversaw strategy as well as operations in 5 countries: Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia and DRC. Tony has been a guest lecturer on microfinance at Wharton and NYU and has been an advisor to the summer Executive MBA class at Wharton on entrepreneurial payment solutions in Africa. Tony is also mentor to students at the University of Wisconsin Madison (MPA 1973) and former employees who have created or are running entrepreneurial business. He is currently a Mentor at the Keller Center for Entrepreneurship at Princeton University. He advises students on startups in Africa.
