After another 10 years of general audit practice, specialising in Construction and Transport clients and more particularly demystifying the differences in business practice in France compared to a group's Head Office country, I moved out of client-facing work to become the Partner-in-Charge of KPMG International's Quality Program (2006-2010) based initially out of Amsterdam and later in Toronto.This role allowed me to travel the world and participate in Quality and Compliance reviews in a number of the KPMG network's member firms, from the smallest in Malawi and Tahiti, through the fast-growth practices of India and Russia but also covering the likes of Denmark, Belgium, Germany and Korea.At the end of this secondment, I returned to the French firm, initially supporting our emerging offices in French-speaking West Africa to implement risk and quality process before moving to the Finance Department in 2012. Primarily responsible for management analysis and reporting, I was also heavily involved in the implementation of a SAP-based practice management system - KPMG in France was the global pilot for the international network's new system. After 37 years with KPMG, what do I consider I have enjoyed most? Assisting those new to their situation understand what is expected of them, whether it be the local client in meeting group requirements, the small local firm in a developing country meet KPMG's compliance and quality standards or helping staff in the French firm learn how to make best use of our IT tools.
