Worked on a variety projects, enhancing the functionality of the Student Finance System (SFS 2.0); an online system allowing students to apply for post-secondary financial assistance.Lead Developer on the Application and Disbursement Management project. This project added essential functionality to manage the learner’s applications and their disbursements.Lead Developer on the SFS Costing project. This standalone application allows the business unit to perform budgetary forecasting. Using multi-threading technologies, the time to run a complete costing scenario (assessing of up to 30,000 applications) takes 30 minutes, reducing the time of execution by a factor of ten from its predecessor. Lead Developer on the SFS Payments project. The payments process is run nightly and is responsible for identifying disbursements to be issued as cheques or certificates. The payments process interfaces with 3rd party and service providers, such as, Edulinx, Imagis and PAPRS.Team Lead, Lead Developer and Business Analyst on the Completion Incentive Grant (CIG) project. This project added a new application type to SFS. CIG applications are entered manually or auto-generated from eligible existing fulltime applications.Team Lead and Lead Developer on the SFS Provider and Program Registry (PAPRS) Cache Project. The data from the PAPRS database is processed and a SFS PAPRS Cache database is produced for use by SFS. Lead Developer on the Learner Electronic Document Upload project. This project is part of an initiative within Student Aid Alberta to eliminate paper documents. This responsive external facing web application was designed as mobile first.

Lead Developer for Altamira’s Variable Compensation (VCP) system, an ASP.NET application used to capture client and sales representative data. This data is used to calculate the sales representative bonus.As senior developer was directly responsible for:• Designing, coding and testing the ASP.NET intranet application.• Designing the data model that is used by the VCP application.• Converting the existing data from the legacy AS400 system to a MS SQL Server 2005. The conversion was done using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).• Provided instructional classes on ASP.NET and VB.NET to Altamira developers.

Student Finance System (SFS), is a province wide initiative to automate the student grant and scholarship system. SFS consists of three ASP.NET applications that allow students, call center personnel, data entry clerks and education institutions to apply, modify and confirm student funding. Technologies used: VB.NET, ASP.NET, SQL Server, Data Protection API, ADO.NET, Web Services, Enterprise Services, CONNX, and XML. As senior developer was directly responsible for:Adding security infrastructure to the internet, intranet and extranet applications.Writing a .NET component to authenticate and authorize online users.Adding two major business components, namely, Disbursement Management and Confirmation of Registration.Adding a framework component that tracks business activities within the system.Provided instructional classes on ASP.NET and VB.NET to junior developers.

Wawanesa Insurance System (WIS) is a corporate wide distributed application used to prepare and maintain insurance policies and serves hundreds of insurance agents across the Quebec province. As lead developer, of the business object tier, was responsible for the design and implementation of business objects and data access components. This middle or business layer was written in Visual Basic 6.0 and hosted in COM+. MS SQL Server 2000 is used as the data tier. Specific accomplishments:Developed transactional components (COM+) to amend, cancel and renew policies.Designed and developed batch processes and DTS packages to import, from the mainframe, billing summary, cashier comments and claims history data.Designed and developed batch processes to renew policies, cancel policies and merge clients.Added base class functionality to the data model objects to support version and non-versioned components.Direct contact with the business client to gather end user requirements.

Electoral Information System (EIS) is a distributed application that automates the British Columbia electoral process. EIS, uses a layered architecture, and is implemented primarily with Microsoft technologies, namely, Visual Basic, MTS, ADO, UML, Terminal Services and COM. The data layer consists of an Oracle database. As lead developer, specific responsibilities were:Worked directly with the original chief architect to acquire the knowledge and understanding of the architecture, environment and tools used in the EIS project.Lead the technical staff in the development of the application.Documented the application architecture and established standards and guidelines.Reviewed logical and physical data models.Assisted in the diagnosis and resolution of application and technical problems.Designed and implemented a role based security system for the EIS project.On-site load balance testing.Interacted with the clients and gave architectural presentations.

Blind Operator Interface: A call center application used by visually impaired long distance operators. As senior programmer, was responsible for the retrofitting of the application and adding functionality to allow a visually impaired person to use the system. Responsibilities included all aspects of the software development life cycle:• Gathered requirements from the end users.• Evaluated third party software and hardware solutions.• Documented requirements, specifications, design and unit test plans.• Developed the call center add-on application.• Performed onsite deployment of the application.Application Infrastructure: Designed and implemented an add-on diagnostic tool that detects memory leaks. The tool successfully detected a variety of memory leaks in a number of applications resulting in significant performance gains. The utility is written in C and makes use of the pre-processor capabilities inherit in the language.

As one of two architectural designers, I was responsible for the design and development of a data driven framework allowing application developers to rapidly add generic functionality and concentrate most of the development effort on implementing business functionality. This framework was successfully used to develop the Corporate Workbench application. The use of the framework reduced the applications time to market by an estimated factor of 5. All development was performed on the OS/2 platform with code written in C using the presentation manager library.In addition to the framework development, tasks included gathering and documenting the business requirements and specifications of a corporate workbench application for Royal Bank corporate account managers. This involved interviewing Royal Bank account managers.
