My experience as an articling student included the following:• I appeared as lead counsel for an applicant before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.• I appeared in Superior Court and Small Claims Court regularly.• I drafted many pleadings and motion records.• I drafted various contracts for our business clients, including Shareholder Agreements.• I also drafted web-site Terms of Use and Privacy Policies.• I drafted several Trade-marks and two U.S. Provisional Patent applications.• I prepared multiple Articles of Incorporation and Articles of Amendment.• And I drafted several Wills and Powers of Attorney.

As one of two Senior Editors I managed a group of about 20 student editors. The goal of the project was that we review appellate court decisions from all Canadian jurisdictions and write reviews of significant cases for publication to our web site. On the basis of the group's efforts, my co-editor and I published a paper in the U of T Faculty of Law Review, in which we offered a survey of the most interesting and significant decisions of 2012.

The main part of my efforts for Prof. Lemmens were devoted to researching approaches to conflicts of interest in regulatory agencies and their scientific experts in relation to the pharmaceutical industry.

As a participant in this extraordinary access-to-justice initiative, I acted as agent for an unrepresented applicant in a request for review of a decision of the Complaints Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario before the Health Professions Appeal & Review Board. In doing so, I had the opportunity to make written and oral submissions before a high-profile administrative tribunal.

At the Herzig Eye Institute I managed clinical aspects of our laser vision correction and refractive surgery practice, and supervised a staff of about 18 permanent employees, a roster of contractor optometrists and several affiliated surgeons. While I joined HEI as a Clinical Assistant, a series of promotions followed. I quickly took on the role of Refractive Consultant and counselled patients both before and after procedures, especially as to reasonable expectations and understanding their surgeons' recommendations. After a year as Acting Centre Director, I was offered a brand new position - Clinical Director of Operations (VP) - in which role I contributed to business strategy decisions, alongside the CEO, the Medical Director and the CFO.

I have long had an interest in literature, and (the) language more generally. In about 2004 I completed a full-length translation of the Anglo-Saxon poem popularly known as Beowulf (which runs to 3,182 lines in the original Old English). One eminent critic has said mine was the most enjoyable translation he has read in a decade.

In this role I proofread and verified the accuracy of revisions to legal documents, including large corporate/commercial contracts, often on tight time-lines. I was regularly entrusted with complicated mark-ups and the reading of newly drafted documents for sense and style. I was commended for sub-editing work on a book written by an Associate in the Projects Group.
