It was a stand alone android application that enabled micro-retailers (mom & pop shops) to digitally record their sales and expenses. DUKA POS was inspired by TechnoServe, Citi Foundation and Strathmore University. It was built to work with a group of micro-retailers (mom & pop shops) that were supported and funded through a program known as Smart DUKA. The Smart DUKA program empowered micro-retailers by providing them with training, access to business tools and financial partners for access to credit. The purpose of the product was two fold:1) Give mom & pop shops visibility into the sales and revenues they generated at the end of each month. Prior to DUKA POS most mom & pop shops never used to keep records. 2) Enable TechnoServe to collect sales data that would enable them to measure if these micro merchants were making an increase in their financial returns as a result of participating in the Smart DUKA program.DUKA POS was deployed to market mid-2016 where it worked with 1,000+ DUKAs to great success. My role was broken down into three core responsibilities:1) Engage with DUKAs and TechnoServe to gather user requirements.2) Work with our engineers to design and build an intuitive product that would meet the needs of DUKAs.3) Train DUKAs on how to use the product and adopt it to to their businesses to get good financial returns. Our key highlight here is that we managed to close the local Google office to provide funding for a period of a year. Show less -
