With 3 siblings of which 1 is my twin, growing up was fun with having friends from almost every tribe, and having a healthy dose of curiosity about the world around us. I remember quite vividly in 1992/1993, when my late Dad travelled and returned with Computers and stated that this is the future as it was powering the activities of countries abroad. You can imagine our excitement as we tried to navigate the workings of this new "toy". From then on, I got introduced to the internet in my friend's house, who had a computer room complete with a fax and printer machine! His house was heaven to us his friends as we spent countless hours after school exploring the web and ultimately racked up huge telephone bills for his Dad. Around this time, my Aunty took us to the American Consulate where they had a library with books donated by the American people. There we found a book- How cartoons are made, that started our journey in Animation.I started off as a Graphic designer and set up a visual communications company with my brother to service companies remotely. As our company grew, we had need for office space to accommodate an expanding team & the idea for The Roothub was born as a platform for ideas to thrive, connected by technology by providing work + meeting spaces to bring creatives together, powered by a thriving community of mentors & talents driven by the need to learn from each other and grow. We launched The Roothub in 2014 from a small space in Uyo with about 5 startups. At that time, Akwa Ibom was predominantly a civil service state with limited tech adoption. The major challenge we faced was the lukewarm reception as well as the mindset of young people towards skills acquisition. To overcome that, we had to have lots of sensitization programs, workshops and seminars across the state to educate the general populace on the importance of digital skills.The Roothub has grown to a platform that provides creative workspaces and resources to deliver training and capacity development to over 50,000 youths in Nigeria, and providing much-needed technology skills to low-income youths in remote and disadvantaged rural areas​, empowering them in today's digital world and helping them access employment, advance career paths, and drive self-reliance through entrepreneurship.From a small space in 2014, to physical presence in 5 major cities of Nigeria (Uyo, Port-Harcourt, Abakaliki, Ibadan, & Lagos), to partnering with Google to equip people with the right skills, tools and products to navigate the digital world and to make it work for them.
