At Wembley Innovation, our ethos is our 3 Cs - we Create novel solutions for masonry construction; we Challenge outdated thinking and we Construct masonry in better ways. Our mission is to replace unwieldy, impractical and costly steel or concrete wind posts with our simple, flexible and bespoke Wi System of reinforced masonry columns and beams. This approach conforms to EC6 design requirements whilst offering uncompromised aesthetic, acoustic and fire protection performance compared to wind posts. The Wi System has been used on exceptional projects such as the Zaha Hadid Aquatics Centre in the Olympics Park as well as the London Stadium. Current projects include Crossrail stations such as Farringdon, Liverpool Street and Bond Street. It is also specified on the proposed blockwork package for the iconic Battersea Power Station project.Our aim now is to secure masonry construction projects outside of London, nationally and internationally. Helifx are the market-leaders in the supply of helical stainless steel ties/fixings for the new-build market and remedial repair products for masonry structures. Initially engaged as Technical Manager providing support services. Was responsible for managing the creation of the standard details in AutoCAD format to replace the MAC versions and all the systems for project management, assessment and approval for warranties.Adopted responsibility for the R & D programmes, including the state-of-the-art masonry arch testing at the TRL. Improved the Helifix masonry arch repair method to achieve 40Te capability on weakened/understrength arches. This led to a collaboration with Arup to develop a world-class, non-linear finite element analysis method to assess masonry arches and justify the strengthening System. Achieved breakthrough contracts with LUL, Network Rail and local authorities.Led and secured the highest ever sales order for Helifix on the Harbour Views refurbishment project in Gibraltar, which was the largest such project in Europe at that time. Worked closely with Pitchmastic and Arup on the structural repair and enhancement of the defective brickwork cladding to the 22 blocks of flats.Completed my MBA and was appointed as a Director after two years. Helped the Board to restructure the Group to preserve market leadership in the face of copy-cat competition. Became responsible for £1m UK sales directly for the Approved Installers and £0.5m international sales indirectly. Led roll-out of Helifix System in India and provided support in Holland, Czech Republic and Poland.

Borehamwood

Joined SLA at the time of the dreaded 90s recession but found a Building Surveying Practice that had more work than it could cope with. Initially provided engineering consultancy support but this quickly grew into an autonomous Engineering Division, dealing with thousands of structural assessments of repossessed houses and commercial buildings. Also provided structural and geotechnical services for new-build developments. Engaged as an Expert Witness on structural matters and gave evidence in Court in two cases - both successful! Began my MBA at a time I moved house, had a second child on the way and then decided to move jobs.. (not a recommendation)

Bedford

SWH are a medium sized civil and structural consultancy. I gained my structural design experience with them and gained my ICE chartered status, with commendation, during my employment at SWH. I was engaged as the Lead Designer on the Aspects Leisure Centre project in Bedford as part of a Design and Build collaboration with SDC Builders, on the largest project the Bedford office had won. My responsibilities included structural design of the steelwork frames of two of the four structures, along with the vibro-piling stabilisation of the site and the site drainage scheme.

I completed my site experience on a 24 hours/7 days a week project at Odhams Printworks, owned by Robert Maxwell, which printed the first colour newspapers in the UK - no wonder the Client's name changed three times during the project.Discovered the delights of life as a site engineer and gained great experience. I worked with some good people, learned a lot and had a craic - have erased the bad times..

Rejoined MHA (now known as Mott MacDonald) after graduating, having completed my sandwich year with them in 85-86 when there was only two of us and we were the first sandwich students MHA had ever employed!Worked in the newly opened Exeter office of the Special Services Division which had grown from four people in based in Croydon in 1985, to 64 in 1987. Engaged in the assessment of Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR) on structures in the south-west region.
