Tony currently serves as the Executive Director of the GIS Certification Institute. The GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) is a non-profit organization that provides the GIS community with a complete certification program, leading to GISP® (Certified GIS Professional) recognition.Tony began his career with the Department of Conservation (MDC) in 1992 where he implemented a pilot program that studied the feasibility of implementing GIS for project support within the Department. During his tenure at MDC he has expanded the scope of the GIS program from a project support tool to an enterprise-wide application in which all staff has access to a full range of geospatial technologies. Prior to retirement Tony supervised the Division’s Geospatial, Technology, Human Dimensions and Biometrics programs. Tony has been very active in facilitating the use of GIS throughout the state and nation and has served in numerous leadership roles. Tony has been an active member of the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) since 1996 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2002 and again in 2016. Tony served as the President of NSGIC in 2005-2006 and remains active with the group. Tony has also been involved with numerous activities including participation with the Federal Geographic Data Committee Steering Committee, the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) Future Directions Governance Team and the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Geolocational Standards team, among others. Tony has been very active with the Mid America GIS Consortium’s (MAGIC). Tony has served on the Board, as the Consortium Chair and served as the Chair of the MAGIC Symposiums in 2002, 2004, 2008 and 2014. He is now the Symposium Planner. He represents MAGIC on the Coalition of Geospatial Organizations and was a founding member of the group. He has testified or participated in various panels, most recently with the National Academy of Science. At the state level, Tony has served as the Chair of the Missouri GIS Advisory Committee for six terms and recently served as the Vice-Chair. Tony also serves the Department as an appointee to the Geographic Names Board and served two three-year terms on the National Geospatial Advisory Committee.Specialties: Geospatial, administration, coordination and collaboration, teaching, governance, conservation, natural resource management.
