The Oregon Marine Board contracts with Oregon Sheriff's and the Oregon State Police to provide Maritime Law Enforcement on Oregon's waterways. Funding is provided through the US Coast Guard and Oregon Boater Registration Dollars primarily.My time with the Oregon Marine Board was spent helping to ensure that the Sheriff's and State Police were provided the training, equipment, and leadership necessary to comply with the contracts for service and increase boating safety on Oregon's waterways.This required working continuously with the Elected Sheriff's and Oregon State Police Command Staff to ensure consistency in the enforcement of Oregon Law from county to county and across the state.This was accomplished through Marine Board sponsored training which pulled high performing officers from the field to assist in providing Training Programs under my direction.These included a two week Marine Law Enforcement Academy, White Water Jet Boat and Drift Boat Operators Courses, Boating Under the Influence, as well as Semi Annual In Service Training Conferences. Attendance was made up of Marine Officers from Oregon and Washington Sheriff's, Oregon State Police Troopers, Tribal Police, National Marine Fisheries, US Coast Guard, and other Federal, State and Local agencies.Procurement of patrol vessels and related equipment was another key component. A fleet of approximately 150 vessels required maintenance and an ongoing replacement and refurbishment plan. I worked diligently with stakeholders to implement a fleet management plan and to better define the type and configuration of vessels needed in the diverse waters of the state.

Worked with local contractors to provide residential doors and windows, custom shower glass, and extensive work in selling retrofit window and door packages.

The mission of the KCSO Marine Patrol was to provide high visibility, on water patrol for the counties 34 boatable lakes and rivers. This included the enforcement of all state boating laws as well as emergency response. As a supervisor for the unit, we were able to justify an increase in our operating budget of 400% and increase our staffing to include two Full Time Deputy's and five Season Deputies.An extensive amount of time was spent in school education programs using the Aqua Smart program as well. During my time with the Marine Patrol, we presented the Water Safety Message to over 15,000 students in the 2nd and 5th grades.I also served as an Instructor for the Oregon Marine Board at the Marine Law Enforcement Academy, White Water Jet Boat and White Water Drift Boat schools, Boating Under The Influence, and many other special assignments.In this position I also worked extensively with Emergency Management for flood preparedness and rescue as well as coordination and training with the KCSO Dive Rescue Team.
