As the drive to reduce our carbon footprint continues, Nuclear Energy must be an integral part of a carbon-free economy. In order to compete, the cost of generating energy through fission must be able to reduce the explicit costs through recycling of fuel, advancements in fuel utilization, and ultimately through fast reactor technology. At the same time, costs can be driven down through implicit avenues such as reducing in risk and improving public perception. In many of these goals, the understanding, development, and application of advanced materials likely will provide the largest impact.I strive to use my skills to help progress nuclear energy as a "green" technology through the development of phenomenological models and computer simulations.
