Boris is a Hydrologist and Civil Engineer working in environmental monitoring, modelling and management. He is the CEO of ATUK Consultoría Estratégica, co-founder of the Institute for Applied Sustainability Research (IIASUR) in Ecuador, and associate member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ecuador. He has been a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College London, UK, and is a scientific advisor to Forest Trends Association, USA.Boris received his Civil Engineering degree with honours (2011) at Universidad de Cuenca, Ecuador, including the highest distinction award “Benigno Malo” and special recognition from the Faculty of Engineering for his exceptional academic career. Likewise, he obtained a Master's degree with honours in Hydrology and Water Resources Management (2014) at Imperial College London, United Kingdom, being awarded the “Victor Appleby Prize" in Engineering Hydrology and the “Letitia Chitty Centenary Memorial Prize" given to the best graduate from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Lastly, Boris received his PhD with honours (2019) from Imperial College London, for his research on Participatory Hydrological Monitoring to Support Sustainable Water Resource Management, receiving the “Unwin PhD Prize” for the best PhD thesis in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2020. He has published more than 50 scientific articles and policy briefs, contributed to more than 100 presentations at conferences, seminars and workshops, and received more than 10 award, recognitions and grants. Boris is currently working on the topics of nature-based solutions and water security.During his career, Boris has worked in several countries around the world, including Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Nepal, Ethiopia, Kyrgyzstan, Somalia Costa Rica, United States, Zambia and Malawi. Boris is the co-founder of ATUK Consultoría Estratégica, an environmental, economic and technological services company based in Ecuador with local and international clients including the World Bank, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), Conservation International (CI), the National Environmental Fund of Peru (PROFONANPE), the German Agency for International Cooperation GmbH (GIZ), the Latin American Water Funds Partnership (LAWFP), and directly with several water funds including the Quito Water Fund (FONAG), the Water Fund for the Conservation of the Paute Basin (FONAPA), the Guayaquil Water Fund (FONDAGUA), and decentralized autonomous governments in Ecuador.
