Sales, design, and execution of Teledyne FLIR high-end thermal camera systems and CI Systems electro-optical measurement systems for scientific and defence applications, industry R&D, predictive maintenance and early fire detection. Multi-tasking with several ongoing projects: customer need interviews, project management, sourcing, system design, assembly, installation, and documentation. As a result, the sales of the high-end camera systems have grown from zero to significant part of the company’s turnover. Taking also care of new customer acquisition and key account management.

R&D and prototyping of a new kind of battery.

Programmed demos for an embedded sensor framework to map sensor data to dynamic and meaningful haptic and audio feedback (vibration and sounds). Designed and implemented both hardware and software of a haptics module for the sensor framework. I also designed the user interface for a wrist device for research purposes.

Planned and implemented a project where latency guidelines for touchscreen virtual button feedback were established for the first time. In this project, I designed and implemented Virtual Button Simulator, research prototype capable of providing very-low-latency capacitive button interaction with multimodal feedback (visual, audio, haptic) and conducted human experiments with Virtual Button Simulator to gain guidelines for touchscreen feedback latencies. The latency guidelines obtained were reported inside Nokia, partly in ACM Transactions of Applied Perception journal (one paper published and one reviewed) and completely in my PhD Thesis.I also designed and implemented a low-cost and accurate multimodal latency measurement tool for investigating latencies in touchscreen mobile devices. Various versions of it were used in several R&D projects within Nokia.

Participated as a key contributor to the haptics user experience design of Nokia N8 and Nokia 5800 and various other mobile phones. Managed and worked in a research project on mobile haptics user experience. A research device created in this project (Nokia 770T – tactile enhanced Nokia 770 internet tablet) has been used as a research device in Tampere University in Finland, University of British Columbia in Canada and University of Glasgow in the UK. The project was a great success, the ROI was estimated as 400 and it got the 4th position in Nokia Quality Award competition. I headed a Nokia-wide haptics special interest forum, connecting 60-120 members via email discussions, Intranet documentation and seminars twice a year. It was considered one of the most enduring expert group within Nokia.

Changed career to Human Computer Interaction. Initiated haptics research within Nokia. Started a research project in mobile haptics user experience and worked in various projects as a haptics specialist. Introduced and explained haptics for Nokia Usability and User Experience professionals.

Managed a project were another cellular network trial system was designed and successfully implemented. The working trial system was important to the Nokia Networks business and standardization.
