501-C3 non-profit which trains facility and service dogs for children with disabilities I am a certified handler for service and facility dogs during public outings and events. I work one-on-one with trainers to learn different training techniques. I independently work with the dogs, practicing their tasks, self-control, and exposure to stressors. I assist in training sessions, exercise, food preparation, and husbandry. I assisted in the planning and facilitation of teen camp for education about service dog training.

I completed a 15 week child life internship which included clinical rotations in Ambulatory Surgical Unit, Adolescent/General Peds Inpatient Unit, Pediatric Ambulatory Chemotherapy and Transfusion Center, and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

I voluteered 3 hours per week in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. I offered developmentally appropriate play opportunities for patients and siblings at bedside and in playroom. I followed schedules and treatment plans set by Child Life to encourage communication in patients who were intubated or non-verbal by reading, singing and utilizing ASL. I sat bedside with patients whose families could not be present. I assisted child life staff in disturbing materials and the sorting of donations for events such as CHOP prom and Halloween bash. I offered event activities to patients in isolation who were unable to attend events I learned and practiced safe cleaning procedures for playrooms.

Main Line Health Homecare and Hospice Volunteer I was assigned a patient to visit weekly with whom I provided companionship and assistance with tasks. I provided hands-on activities based on the patient’s mental capacity, partnered with a therapeutic harpist to provide music and relaxation, and had intimate discussions about illness and death. I wrote chart notes on the patient’s behavior and our time together. I also assisted in occasional support groups for families. I led group discussions on death, grief, and coping strategies. I assisted in yearly memorial services held by Main Line. Estimate of hours due to no documentation of hours worked in events.

I shadowed CCLS in adolescent medicine, day surgery, and oncology for 182 hours of experience. I observed child life specialists in day to day operations including medical rounds, medical play, psychological preparation, procedural support, grief and coping support. I independently executed multiple group and individual therapeutic activities. I wrote weekly journal entries which included reflection of experiences and developmental analysis of patients. I planned and facilitated the hospital wide event “Superhero for the day” which included artistic expression, patient socialization, and worksheets which helped children explore and familiarize with the hospital.

I interned at a non-profit medical day care for children age 6 months to 8 years old with healthcare needs for 600 hours of experience. I assisted in feeding, teaching, and watching kids. I facilitated music and arts and crafts, along with developing basic lesson plans. I created developmentally appropriate activities for children who experienced delays in verbal, gross and fine motors skills. I shadowed and assisted physical, occupational, speech and feeding, and music therapists in session. I observed and assisted in distraction during diabetic treatments, tube feed administration, colostomy changes, breathing treatments and other medical procedures.
