At Sylvan I tutor students in hour-long sessions in all subjects from K-12. My particular speciality is English & Reading ACT/SAT prep, although I also enjoyed teaching other topics and subjects with students. Sylvan was key to my teaching development because I could see where students come from. As a high school teacher, you don't always see the complete development from beginning readers and writers. This helped me figure out how to break difficult skills into more basic skills.

Summit is a Non-Profit Public School for students with Autism, ADHD and related disorders. While there I taught English I, II, and III; Grammar & Usage; Composition; Creative Writing; and Career Exploration. As a special education school, I differentiated content across a wide range of needs, such as teaching students with pre-primary reading levels and students with moderate behavior goals. To give the best instruction for my students I created most of my own materials to individualize learning goals. I also used mentor texts to help students master difficult skills. I also like exploring new strategies in teaching, so I used meditation and mindfulness tools to aid in concentration for my students with ADHD. In addition to the classroom, I was a cheerleading coach for a co-ed team. Our cheer team not only raised enough money to buy uniforms, but exceeded their goal by almost double the amount through fundraising. After school I also taught in home instruction in all subjects with a student with ODD and ADHD, and as a result he passed all of his classes with As. Finally, I volunteered at most school events to maximize time with students, build connections with them, and learn more about them.
