About Torin Peterson, Ed.M.

Welcome! A bit about me:I have over 15 years of experience working in the education nonprofit field, and I worked most recently with City Teaching Alliance (formerly Urban Teachers) for nearly 6 years. On the Recruitment and Admissions teams with City Teaching Alliance, I interviewed and hired hundreds of aspiring public school educators, ensuring they had access to supports and resources in order to become effective, culturally responsive, anti-racist teachers for their students every single day.I earned my B.A. in English/Theatre and Education from Bowdoin College and my Master's in International Education Policy from Harvard University, which has enabled me to work on behalf of a number of fantastic education nonprofit organizations in my career. Please don’t hesitate to send me a message - I’d love to connect!

    * Visit the Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/perpupil/per-pupil-you-t-shirts-close-school-funding-gaps* Check out our Medium page: https://medium.com/@perpupilThis endeavor to begin Per Pupil stems from a fundamental, widely-known-but-often-ignored fact: Our public elementary and secondary schools are severely underfunded, particularly those that serve predominantly Black, brown, and low-income children, as a direct result of institutional racism. A 2020 study from a leading scholar in school finance found that the U.S. underinvests in public schools by nearly $150 billion annually. To end this unacceptable status quo, those who acknowledge its reality – myself and all of us – must speak up more and must do more to end it.Per Pupil will be a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works to provide what’s necessary for public schools – that is, funding for successful educational and life outcomes for children.
