Torrian L. Baskerville (he/him) is a director at the Human Rights Campaign, where he leads the national HIV and health equity portfolio, which aims to end HIV stigma and discrimination and achieve health equity for LGBTQIA+ communities, especially Black and Latine gay, bisexual, and other sexually minoritized men, people living with HIV, and youth and young adults. With over ten years of experience in the HIV and health equity field, Torrian has a proven record of using strength-based and community-centered approaches to address the needs of often marginalized groups and developing and advancing public policy to promote social change.Before joining HRC, Torrian was a manager at NASTAD, where he provided capacity-building and technical assistance to community-based organizations and health departments in the South on HIV stigma, social determinants of health, community engagement, and cultural responsiveness. Torrian also has extensive experience overseeing and implementing HIV prevention and PrEP programs across multiple state- and federally-funded projects. Torrian studies Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Social Justice in Healthcare Management at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst, holds multiple certificates in diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, ethical leadership, and healthcare change management–currently working on an Executive Healthcare Leadership certificate–and is the former board chair of the Adolescent Health Center at The Door, a center of alternatives for youth and young adults. Torrian is a progressive disruptor, a radical racial and social justice strategist, and an angelic troublemaker passionate about eradicating HIV and achieving health equity for all. Due to his work, Torrian was named an "Amazing Advocate & Allies of the Year" in the Nov/Dec 2023 issue of HIV Plus Magazine and was featured in GLAAD's "Queer Black History Month: Legacy Series," analogized to the likes and legacy of prominent Black, openly queer civil rights activist Bayard Rustin.
