Working in disaster relief is an activity that I am very proud of. It dovetails nicely with my two great joys: helping other people and learning new things. For instance, we were on a tornado clean up operation and one of the victims was very downbeat coupled with a distrust of society as a whole. We managed to convince him that we could help him out. On the first day, he wasn't really present, but by the third day, he was out with his own chainsaw helping us with gusto. His face said it all, as it changed from the look of a defeated man to someone rejuvenated and looking forward to life. Being able to impact people's lives in this fashion is why I love Team Rubicon.
