The Iona Community is an international, ecumenical Christian movement working for justice and peace, the rebuilding of community and the renewal of worship.The Community was founded in Glasgow in 1938 by Rev George MacLeod. A visionary and a social reformer, MacLeod was driven by a belief that faith is grounded in action. In rebuilding the ruined accommodation at Iona Abbey, trainee ministers and unemployed workers lived, worked and worshipped together.The Iona Community are now about 280 Members and more than 2,000 Associate Members, Young Adults and Friends across the world. We remain true to that founding vision – sharing common work and community as we pursue justice and peace, in Scotland and beyond.

The International Committee on Historic Towns and Villages (CIVVIH) was established in 1982. The Committee deals with questions relevant to the planning and management of historic towns and villages. Its membership is made of experts who have different professional backgrounds related to historic town preservation. They come from ICOMOS member countries all over the world to share their knowledge and experience with colleagues practicing in the field.

Founded in 1965, we have had a formative role in UK civil society for over 50 years. In the 1980’s we began bringing historic landmark buildings back into productive reuse. Since the 1990’s we have contributed to some of the UK’s most successful urban regeneration programmes, demonstrating that historic areas are economic assets. For over a decade we have had a leading national role in traditional skills training, recognised with a European award. For 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage we were the UK national coordinator: within the context of Brexit and as one of 33 participating countries, we hosted a top-performing programme of over 600 events all over the UK.The contribution cultural heritage makes in society should have no limits. We are now Cultura Trust; not constrained by place or barriers, we are free to be what society needs us to be. Culture – Cultura in Latin – is international and inclusive. It is about our traditions and values, the way we do things; it is creative and involves everyone. We are making all that NECT has stood for even more accessible and relevant.
